The original photograph showed Libi Balaban Cohn and her brother Abe Balaban/Baellow on the right. Dave was already in the states. Libi didn’t like way she looked so she cropped herself out.
A traveling photographer came to the shteitl and took their picture. Bubba Fayga decided that the length was too short so Libi in a rush let out the hem and didn’t have a chance to iron out the place where the old hem was. Esther didn’t think it looked nice and was upset as her expression shows.

Why would he wear a Russian Army hat that represented the oppression of the Jewish people? The Tsarist army was a death sentence for so many.
